The origin and growth of Angamaly City Church runs parallel to the life and testimony of Pr. I M Koshy.

 

I. M. Koshy a young and enthusiastic man came to this city mid 1960's as a job seeker. He was employed at TELK in the year 1965. Even though he belonged to an Orthodox Christian family, he turned out to be an atheist in his adulthood.

 

However, a personal encounter with Christ turned his life upside down. Just as Saul turned Paul, God transformed him completely.

 

He became very passionate about God and started sharing the gospel with everyone he came into contact with. He used to buy Bibles and gifts for people whom he shared the gospel with. Dozens of people come to the saving knowledge of Christ through his personal evangelism. Together with his wife Eliamma Koshy, they made a breakthrough in church planting in a land, traditionally resistant to any modern missionary movements. God has used them powerfully for the formation of two churches in the years 1980 and 1992 in Angamaly. In the year 2001 with a compelling leading of the Spirit Pr. I. M. Koshy initiated a Bible study for a set of new seekers, which eventually led many to Christ. On August 15th 2001 Angamaly Church of God (present day Angamaly City Church) was formally inaugurated with the baptism of 5 people. Subsequently, a worship service has started at Pr. I.M. Koshy’s residence. Dozens of people were added to the Church. Baptisms were held in regular intervals, different ministerial functions were exercised, ordination of new evangelists was held, a choir group named “Charis Beats” was formed and multiple evangelistic activities were undertaken.
